The revitalized SYRREO Classical Music Festival launches on August 3rd with a spectacular evening of Greek operetta at Miaoulis Square. Featuring the oldest symphony orchestra in Greece, the ERT National Symphony Orchestra (est. 1938), the concert will be conducted by the internationally acclaimed Giorgos Petrou (Echo Klassik award winner, Grammy nominee).
The program stars:
Anny Fassea, soprano (La Scala, Milan)
Martha Sotiriou, mezzo-soprano (Greek National Opera)
Giannis Kalyvas, tenor
The concert brings to life beloved songs that many don’t realize were originally written for Greek operettas—a genre that thrived in Greece between 1912 and 1940, serving as the entertainment equivalent of cinema in the post-war years. This tribute to Greek musical theatre will also be broadcast by ERT.
Blending Viennese musical tradition with Greek popular elements, the Greek operetta continues to resonate with modern audiences. As Artistic Director of the Handel Festival in Göttingen, Petrou masterfully highlights this cultural treasure through the vibrant sounds of the ERT Orchestra.

Το ανανεωμένο Φεστιβάλ Κλασικής Μουσικής «SYRREO” ξεκινά με υπερθέαμα ελληνικής οπερέτας στις 3 Αυγούστου στην Πλατεία Μιαούλη, με την παλαιότερη ελληνική Ορχήστρα, την Εθνική Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα της ΕΡΤ (ιδρ. 1938) και διεύθυνση του Γιώργου Πέτρου (βραβευμένος με Echo Klassik, Grammy nominee).
Η συναυλία με γνωστά τραγούδια που πολλοί αγνοούν ότι γράφτηκαν για την ελληνική οπερέτα -που ήταν για τον μεσοπόλεμο ό,τι ο κινηματογράφος μεταπολεμικά- θα μεταδοθεί από την ΕΡΤ. Η ελληνική οπερέτα (1912–1940), συνδυάζοντας βιεννέζικη παράδοση με λαϊκά στοιχεία, διατηρεί απήχηση μέσα από σύγχρονους ερμηνευτές. Ο Πέτρου, Καλλιτεχνικός Διευθυντής στο Handel Festival Γκέτινγκεν, αναδεικνύει αυτή την μουσική κληρονομιά μας με τη δυναμική της Ορχήστρας.
