A landmark seafront complex that reflects the commercial identity of Ermoupoli and the maritime history that shaped modern Syros.
Facing the port of Syros, the Customs Office is a monumental marble building designed in 1860 by Alexander Georgantas. Rebuilt after wartime damage according to its original design, it remains closely associated with the island’s trading life and still marks the commercial face of the waterfront.
Beside it stand the transit warehouses, first created in 1834, which underline Ermoupoli’s role as a major shipping and storage hub in the 19th century. The area today combines architecture, port history and open sea views, while the nearby monument to the Unknown Sailor adds another layer to its maritime character.
