Saint Stefanos Chapel hike to Galissas Beach in Syros

This Saint Stefanos Chapel hike in Syros combines natural beauty, Cycladic history, hidden beaches, Agia Pakou Chapel and the coastal village of Galissas.

The route begins at the highest point of the trail, with open views towards the blue Aegean Sea to the west. From there, the experience leads to the cave chapel of Saint Stefanos, one of the most secluded and contemplative places of worship on Syros.

Dedicated to Saint Stephen the Protomartyr, the chapel is remarkable for its location, simplicity and peaceful atmosphere. It is a beautiful spot for photography and reflection, especially in the morning or afternoon, and it can be reached only on foot or by boat in calm weather.

After visiting Saint Stefanos, the hike continues towards a hidden beach, one of the most alternative and beautiful spots on the island. There is time to relax, enjoy a light snack and swim in the sea.

The final stop is the hilltop chapel of Agia Pakou, a picturesque site with historical significance and panoramic views over the surrounding area. The small church stands out for its white Cycladic architecture and unique position above Galissas.

Galissas has been inhabited since ancient times and flourished mainly during the Geometric and Classical periods. It is also mentioned by the ancient geographer Strabo as one of the main cities of ancient Syros.

The journey ends in Galissas, a seaside village with Aegean views, where visitors may enjoy a swim in crystal-clear waters or taste local delicacies at a seaside taverna.
